Couture anglaise: Part 1

French seams/ couture anglaises

Waiting to be sewed
Today I quickly (45 minutes) sewed up this lovely bag in preparation for an afternoon of sewing with some friends tomorrow. I'm going to demonstrate french seams to them and this seemed like the perfect project. I used a coupon of Kaffe Fassett fabric that I got from a friend. I really wanted to make something pretty out of this fabric and I just about used up every bit of it. A simple tote/ shopping bag using french seams, which is convient because you don't have to line the bag.

I'm very happy with my new bag and I have 3 kits waiting to be transformed. To be continued ...

A suivre ...

Mini groccerie bag

Today I finished this lovely mini groccerie bag. I've been wanting to make this for a longtime. The pattern is available here on the Keyka Lou Blog. This is so fun and easy to make.

I took my bag out for a test run this afternoon and I just love it. I got so many compliments on the Paris underground. I see many more of these bags in the future.

Keyka Lou will be releasing a new version of this popular bag soon. The new pattern will have the original size, a medium size and a small size. The size of the mini bag is great but I would have liked a bigger one. Let's see what the meduim size groccerie bag will be like. Now I'm off to ramage around in my fabric stash to mix and match so that I can make some more of these.

A new batch

Last week I had a good sewing week. I managed to make 10 new project bags. My goal each week is to make at least 5.

Here is a closer look at them:

Most of the fabric comes from Yodoya, rue St. Glles in Paris.
Dimensions: 24cm by 25cm, perfect for smaller sized knitting projects.

Liberty for my knitting

I make many pouches and project bags every week, but this time I made one just for me. A small sized knitting project bag, that could be used for almost anything, in Liberty of London Tatum. The pattern is homemade. More project bags to come.

Same as dad

When Surya saw his dad's hat, he wanted me to make him the same one. We tried to find the same colour, Manor, but everyone was out of stock so he chose Cousteau instead.

Idlewood

After my "Tea Leaves" cardigan I decided to make "Idlewood" which is on my 12 projects for 2012 list. I'm very pleased with the result. I love everything about this sweater. - the colour, the fit, the well written pattern. This piece is knitted "top down", so it's knitted in one piece and requires no sewing at the end. Just weaving in the ends. I'm not a big fan of assembling knitted garments. I'm defintely a "top down" person.

Pattern: Idlewood available on Ravelry
Yarn: Cascade Yarns Eco Wool from Laine et Tricot
Needles: I used 6mm needles. I wanted a smaller cowl so I didn't used 6.5mm needles on the cowl as stated in the pattern.
Modifications: No modifications needed on this pattern except for the change in needle size on the cowl. The fit is perfect. I made the pockets but never got around to sewing them on.
